The arts have taken a massive hit during this pandemic. It’s utterly heartbreaking, especially for those whose livelihoods it is. But also for audiences who are being denied access to the arts.
But, I am here to look forward. Things are tough but times will get better. Theatre is slowly returning, if in an adapted way, and shows are being confirmed for next year.
Here are 8 shows gracing the stages of Manchester in 2021
1. SIX
The undisputed queens of pop and the most millennial musical around. This is a girl group made up of Henry the Eighths wives, who retell their story in concert form. Coming to The Lowry with covid safe measures in place! Here are six reasons you need to see Six.

2. The Lion King
The Lion King is one of the most epic shows you will see. The puppetry design of the animals is nothing short of genius and the scale of the production is the perfect ode to Disney. I just can’t wait to see this musical in Manchester. Check out these amazing Lion King facts!

3. Mamma Mia!
If there’s any show guaranteed to make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside, it’s Mamma Mia! This is the number one feel good musical with all the best ABBA hits set on the dreamiest Greek Island. Read my review here.

4. Groan Ups
If you’re a fan of The Play That Goes Wrong, then you will most likely enjoy their newest creation, Groan Ups. This comedy follows the lives of 6 classmates from childhood to adulthood, and you can only imagine the mischief they get up to!

5. The Addams Family
Everyone’s favourite kooky family is back! I saw this musical when it last toured with Carrie Fletcher and it totally wowed me. The plot is fun, the set is spooky and the songs are catchy. Don’t miss this love story with an Addams Family twist.

6. Hairspray
The nicest kids in town are returning to Manchester armed with truckloads of hairspray. This is an upbeat, colourful musical with a message with relevant than ever before. Check out my review of the last tour!

7. Rock of Ages
I’m a massive 80’s fan and this jukebox musical is full of rock classics from ‘I wanna know what love is’ to ‘We built this city’. Set in the Bourbon room you’ll follow a feisty love story and meet musicians with aspirations to be rock stars!

8. Waitress
This is a hit Broadway and West End musical written by Grammy award winner Sarah Bareilles. You will meet Jenna, a waitress and expert pie maker who just wants to find happiness. Oh, it’s also brought to life by a female led creative team – YES!! It’s closed in London now so the tour is the only way to see it.
