Six Goals for 2018

Hello you lovely lot. I hope you had a fantastic Christmas and New Year. I had some well-earned rest over the festive period and took a blogger break. That meant I had a lot of time to think about my goals for 2018. So here are six things I’ll try to achieve over the next 12 months.

1. Blog redesign

That’s right guys, this year I am going to give my blog a little refresh. At the moment it’s OK as designs go, but it’s missing that little sparkle. That star quality. So I’ve chosen a theme from the legendary Pipdig, which will go live this month. Like most bloggers I love a re-brand, I just hope you like my new look too.

2. Social Numbers

Everyone says numbers don’t matter, it’s the engagement. But why are the two mutually exclusive? I want to grow my numbers so I can engage with more bloggers. We put so much effort into our internet space and we should shout about it. So I’ve set some social numbers to reach by the end of the year.

2000 Twitter I love Twitter more than any other social media site. It’s the best way to e-meet and, more importantly, e-speak to others. This year I will make even more of an effort to respond to tweets, like more comments and join chats. Let’s get social! Follow @culture_bean

500 Instagram This platform has been a huge learning curve for me and over the year I have massively improved my grid. I want to continue to up my Insta game, which I’ve already started by using Light Room to edit and Preview to arrange. It is slow to grow so I’ve set a modest increase of 130. Follow @culture_bean

200 YouTube I love filming and editing videos. I really do. I get to show my personality and have amazing records of my travels. I’m pretty relaxed about the content I post and I can’t commit any more time because it takes so long to create. So if I can gain another 50 subscribers in the next year I’d be a very happy girl. 3. Picture Album

Sticking with the photography theme, I would like to start printing some pictures (not all, because there are thousands). My parents have stacks of albums in the house. Shoved in every draw and under every bed. I miss this. Holding pictures, flicking through albums and cringing at embarrassing mug shots. The digital age has demolished this tradition. So I’d like to kick-start it again and print physical pictures for an album.

4. 24 Books

I read a lot already. Have done since I was tiny. But it’s really the Kindle that doubled my reading intake. This year I want to hit two a month and keep a little more of a log. Not with a blog review each time, just a list as a reminder.

5. Charity Work

Over the Christmas period, we spent lots of time with our families dogs. I loved going for walkies and getting cuddles but we can’t have a pet due to our rent agreement. So this year I would like to sign up to help the local dogs home and commit a few hours a month to walking their dogs. I’m also going to suggest writing some posts and shooting pictures for their website.

6. Chatty Posts

And finally, I realise I don’t really do many posts like this. Just chatty ones. This is actually my favourite way to write as my thoughts can pour onto the page.  So this year you’ll find more personal posts for a little chit-chat. They may be short or long or in-between, I’m not sure, but I’m excited to try it out.

This feels like a lot among a full-time job and regular travelling, so I’m just going to go with the flow. I’m not hell-bent on hitting every target. This will just be a gentle guide for 2018. I’ll do what I can, when I can and enjoy myself along the way. I hope you continue to follow my adventures as Culturebean.

What do you think of my goals? Have you set any?

I definitely want to work on my blog design a little more this year and I have a few ideas which I’m really excited about – good luck with yours! Reading is one of my goals too and I think 2 a month is a good number for me too! I’m keeping a lot of what I’ve read to include more book posts on my blog! xx
