Light Night is the most insta worthy event in LEEDS! every October, a multi-arts light festival takes over the whole city. Leeds literally lights up.
Thousands of friends, families and colleagues flock to the city, wrapped in their warmest clothes, to enjoy an eclectic night of delights from gigantic projections to dazzling street parades. Even though I’ve moved cities, there’s no way I’m missing it. I’ve rounded up TEN things I’m hoping to catch tomorrow! You might just catch a vlog on my YouTube channel too…
Briggate will be illuminated by the warm colours of giant standing floor lamps that will really put you in the spotlight. Briggate.
2. Museum of the Moon
Measuring seven metres in diameter, this internally lit spherical sculpture of the moon floats over Leeds Dock and features detailed NASA imagery of the lunar surface. Leeds Dock, The Boulevard.
3. Out of the Aire
Leeds Civic Hall will again be transformed as it hosts Light Night’s centrepiece light spectacular using incredible projection mapping. Civic Hall.
4. Heofon Light Maze
An immersive light maze based on triangular geometry. The tall acrylic panels reflect light rays along the entire colour range of a rainbow. Granary Wharf.
5. Beating Heart
Be part of this pulsing installation. Mirror your own heartbeat on the building through a touch-sensitive podium. Platform Building, Leeds Station.
6. Talking Heads
Three giant translucent heads come to life through 3D projection mapping. Capture your own likeness in the self-portrait camera booth on site. Quarry Hill.
7. On Your Wavelength
Use your brain activity to control a huge light composition. You can steer intense beams of light and influence the organ music with your mind. Leeds Town Hall.
8. The Lost Forest of Leeds
A portal to a forgotten world has opened up. Use a special flashlight and map to help solve the cryptic messages of the mysterious forest! The Crypt, Leeds Town Hall.
9. Light Benches
Get to know someone new on these beautiful Light Benches! Find out something you never knew you had in common, and indulge in a little silliness. Victoria Gardens.
10. Symbiosis
Each visitor’s breathing is represented as different coloured light, and stimulates the walls of the tent to breathe, creating symbiosis. Leeds Town Hall.
