Mother’s day is just around the corner so it’s the perfect time to treat the ones you love with gifts and why not get something unusual and unexpected. I’m usually tight on budget too so it’s important they don’t come with a high price tag.
It acts as a day of celebration to the mother in your life. And it’s not just for your biological mum. It can be someone you share a maternal bond with or has influenced your life. It’s not exclusive, and you can interpret it in anyway you like.
Let’s talk money
But of course spending money isn’t necessary. There’s lots of ways you can show your love and appreciation without dipping into your savings. These small things can go a long way:
- Say I love you
- Have a long hug
- Give a helping hand
- Cook breakfast
- Watch a movie together
- Go for a walk – Here’s 3 beautiful walks in Yorkshire
- Hand draw a card
We have become incredibly materialistic as a society and I’m much more of a minimalistic person. So when I do buy presents, they have real meaning and purpose.
This guide is for those who want to buy an unusual mother’s day gift that won’t break the bank or get dusty in a drawer.
Here’s my guide to unusual gifts this Mother’s Day
1. Experiences with Moonpig
I am huge fan of experience based gifts but did you know Moonpig offer a great selection too! From a pamper session (£30) to afternoon tea (£25) they are fantastic uplifts to a personalised card. There’s over 10,000 card designs to choose from and adding a present in just a few clicks makes gifting so much easier.
Find Moonpig experiences here. From £25.
2. Family tree album
The art of albums have disappeared thanks to digital photographs. But it’s such a nice treat to sit down, flip open a book and feel the pictures in your fingers. I love this wooden family tree album where you can easily slip in up to 120 images. You could add a few images to start the collection off.
3. Gin making kit
Gin is in, as they say! It’s basically vodka but more botanical. There seems to be a million flavours to choose from but have you ever thought to make your own? This is a simple and cheap gift set that’s bound to make any gin lover smile.
4. Personalised night sky
If your mum likes art and wall hangings, then I’m sure she’d really appreciate this framed poster. It’s a star map with a difference. You choose a specific date and time, and the image will be of the sky that very night! I think this is one of the most special and unusual mother’s day gifts.
5. Love you to the moon and back
Sticking with the sky theme, I have fallen in love with this delicate and utterly charming silver necklace. I do love my mum to the moon and back, and this is one of the prettiest ways to show it. It’s another Moonpig pick – remember they offer way more than just cards. They have a massive gifting service too!
6. Hydroponics vase
Is your mum green fingered? This hydroponics vase is great for any plant loving home. Hydroponics is a method of growing plants with nutrient water instead of soil. The plant isn’t included but the seller suggests using herbs or flowers. Made of iron and glass, this quirky vase would look impressive on any mantlepiece.
Find the vase here. £12.
7. Heat changing cat mugs
Buying for a cat lady? Moonpig have a great mother’s day range and these adorable cat mugs are ideal for animal obsessed people. And not only are they super cute, they also heat change so the face turns from happy to even happier. It would perfectly complement a cat cuddle and hot cuppa tea.
8. Rustic mindful jar
Mums are often found running around. They’re busy people – like super women! And they can often forget to think about themselves. So this rustic jar is a reminder to stop, breathe and calm their minds. A daily dose of mindfullness can have lasting impacts and this jar has a month of quick excercises to get started.
9. Colouring kit
Staying with self care, colouring is a great way to switch off. If your mum is crafty, then this will excite her creativity and could help her relax. Anyone in need of ‘me time’ might find their inner Van Gogh and de-stress all in one. This comes with 4 colouring books and a 120 pencil set!
10. Chocolate Prosecco bottle
And to top off these unusual mother’s day gifts, I’ve indulged in something sweet. You can’t go wrong with milk chocolate, especially when it’s as cute as this prosecco shaped bottle. It’s another Moonpig gift that is perfect for any sweet toothed mother.
Live theatre is an incredible experience and there’s loads of shows you can enjoy together. LoveTheatre has some of the best West End deals. And did you know The Lion King is returning to Manchester in October? It’s simply unmissable!
I hope whatever you do this mother’s day, you have a special day with someone you love. Remember, it’s really about making memories and spending money on gifts is a little bonus.
